Frequently asked questions
Is the masked text really gone?
Yes. A black box drawn on top is not enough: the text can still be copied. DataMask redraws every page that contains a masked item, so the characters no longer exist in the file, then re-reads the result and refuses to deliver it if a masked value is still readable.
Is the result anonymous under the GDPR?
Only if nothing left can identify the person. Masking names while keeping a file number is pseudonymisation: the document is still personal data (EDPB guidelines 01/2025). You choose what to mask; the report states what was done.
Is my document sent to Olyteck?
No. It is read, analysed and masked in your browser. The server only counts the number of documents for your plan - never the file, its name or what was found.
And scanned documents?
A scan contains no text to detect: draw the zones to mask by hand. Automatic reading of scans (OCR) is planned.
